How Did You Get Started?

A 'few' decades ago, I started doing back walkovers in my living room. I discovered my love for gymnastics, which set my passion in motion. Over the years I spent time keeping active, teaching aerobics in college, running and keeping up with my children. I began coaching gymnastics and decided to start training for Fitness America. I needed to develop more strength and so began my second love, resistance training.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

There are so many workout plans. There are no limits. It's impossible to choose one. I try to make mine different every time. When you get to know your body and how it responds and recovers, then changing up the routine becomes easy. For beginners, however, who are training on their own, I would recommend a set routine for a month or two as technique and form are perfected. When the body becomes 'conditioned' to the point where 'a plateau' begins, then it's really beneficial to start incorporating metabolic workouts, plyometrics, ballistic-endurance movements and body changing combinations of super sets.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

This is where I think things get 'weird'. I say that because I have quirky things I do because I know how my body responds to certain foods. The guideline of 'eating clean' is a typical way to explain choosing foods for the optimal nutrients, such as, fresh vegetables, fruit and lean cuts of meat, chicken, eggs and fish. Preparing them without sauces, butter and oils (with the exception of olive oil) I find works best.

"Fast food" are two four-letter words. I pack my lunch and I'm picky about my choices when I eat out. However, I love to have my cake and eat it too. So, I allow myself to indulge into divine decadence. I am always aware when I'm getting away from good food choices. Bottom line is I don't feel as good. Now here's where the quirkiness comes in...competition time I have certain foods I know work for me and I eat just about the same things over and over for about a month out. Boring, but effective. Such is the nature and extreme side of bodybuilding.

    What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

    Hate to inform you, but I don't really 'do supplements.' It's not that I'm opposed to them. I have used Met RX Protein Plus as in between meals snack shakes. Mostly, however, in my experience my focus has been to pay attention and be aware of how I'm feeling after I eat certain foods and whether I need to change things up. I do take a multi-vitamin (when I remember).

    Why do you love Bodybuilding?

    I've always had energy. I'm happiest when I'm active and physically moving as much of that energy I can each day. It is a gift I was given. It's a way I express myself. It's not so much lifting a lot of weight that makes me feel so good. It's seeing the physical results, as well as feeling the amazing emotional 'high' of working the body and mind to their optimal performance.

    Bodybuilding is the ultimate challenge in turning what's inside of you outside of you...in the literal sense, as well as the emotional sense. There is nothing more exciting to me than being up on stage, performing to an audience with a choreographed routine that expresses through my emotions and body the core of my being.

    What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

    I want to continue to feel good to the end of my life. When you respect and take care of yourself, you set an example and inspire others to do the same. You have to care about how you feel to want to be healthy.

    What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

    Goals aren't so much important to me as is the ability to move forward with something new and that makes me feel inspired. When I figure out something new I want to do, then the moments leading up to the desired 'goal' or achievement become creative, accomplished memories that enhance my life until the next idea pops into my head.

    What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

    I am entering into the NPA Ms. & Mr. Fitness/Bodybuilding/Figure NC competition in June. From there I hope to go to the NPA Pro-qualifier in Burlington and onto my first Pro show in October.

    Believe in what inspires you and moves you in the direction of what feels good.

    Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

    As a junior in high school; a gymnastics coach, Lynn Concrite, inspired me. She had become a champion bodybuilder. Then, Corey Everson's show Body Sculpting was launched. I became a fan as I witnessed how she showed women, on camera, practicing weight training every day, learning to change and reshape their bodies.
