How Did You Get Started?

Growing up I was always athletic, playing competitive softball and volleyball always kept me in great shape. In my early twenties I started to weight train, but I never became dedicated to see any body changing results.

In October of 1998 I underwent emergency brain surgery. For about 4yrs before surgery I had been experiencing extreme pressure in my head and had been vomiting for no reason. I made many trips to different doctors to explain my symptoms, but they all look at me and as a young women in her early thirties who looked healthy. One day I just couldn't take the pain any longer and drove myself to the emergency room. A CT scan was taken and they found that I had an aracnoid cyst at the base of my brain that was the size of a large lemon and also had water on the brain. Needless to say I was out of commission for a while and after my recovery I just let myself go.

So in January 2001 I made that New Year resolution that so many of us make, but this time I approached it a bit differently. I set small goals for myself, starting with the 12-week program. After the first 12 weeks I saw changes in my body. I followed a clean diet and continued with my long-term goals. It's almost 2 years later and I am a "Gym Rat". And love it!

After my first year of training I set another goal that I would compete in my first bodybuilding show. In June of 2002 I entered the NGA Florida Naturals in Coral Springs, FL. I competed in the Novice Division and the Masters 35yrs + Division. What a thrilling night, I placed 1st in the Novice Division and 3rd in the Masters Division. I was thrilled with my placing and I couldn't have done it without the help and support from my trainer IFBB Pro Darrem Charles, he is a true ambassador of the sport of bodybuilding. And of course my husband for putting up with all of the craziness that comes with competing.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I get the best results from training one body part a day. For my lagging areas (Back, Legs) I train them twice a week. I dedicate one day of hard training for those parts and then do one light session during the week.

Workout Example:

  • Monday: Chest- Short Back workout, abs, and cardio
  • Tuesday: Legs, Calves, abs, and cardio
  • Wednesday: Shoulders, abs, and cardio
  • Thursday: Back, abs, and cardio
  • Friday: Triceps, Biceps, Short Leg workout, abs,
  • Saturday: Off
  • Sunday: Off

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I found that Nitro-Tech protein powder stacked with Cell-Tech gave me the biggest mass muscle growth.

But I think my diet is what really helps me the most. I eat 5-6 meals a day, eating my body weight plus of protein and adding the right carbs really makes a difference in my gains.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love the sport because it makes me feel strong in mind and body. It gives me the self-confidence and discipline that I have always wanted to achieve. Most people have no idea of how much dedication and discipline it takes to achieve a body that is "Competition Ready". I will never get on stage if I don't think that I've conditioned my physic to present myself on stage as a competitive bodybuilder.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I'll be competing in the NGA United States National Championships and Grand Prix Natural on November 9th, 2002 in Parkland, FL. Entering in the Master's 35yrs+ Division and the Women's Open Middleweight Division. In 2003 I would love to earn my Natural Pro Card with the NGA organization.
