How Did You Get Started?

I first started weight training at my school gym with a couple friends. I got my first real gym membership as a birthday gift and started training on a more regular basis. Then, one day, a buddy suggested I put my hard work to some use and I entered my first competition. I've had the bug ever since.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I try and change my workout every 8-10 weeks so body parts don't get too used to being worked on the same day all the time. It's good to move things around once in a while in order to "shock" your muscles. My favorite workout plan is pretty basic - a six day split hitting one body part per day:

  • Day 1: Chest
  • Day 2: Back
  • Day 3: Legs
  • Day 4: Shoulders
  • Day 5: Arms
  • Day 6: Abs/calves/forearms
  • Day 7: Off
I supplement my weights with cardio (eliptical cross-trainer/ treadmill) and try to keep my workouts to 45-60min - working each muscle to failure. The worst thing you can do is have a set number of reps in your head as that sets a limit on how much you can do.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

As a natural athlete I've tried just about everything under the sun to gain that competitive edge. Along with a strict diet I've found that nothing beats the basics:

  • Whey protein isolate
  • Creatine
  • Glutamine
  • ECA stack
  • Multi vitamin/mineral

    Why do you love Bodybuilding?

Bodybuilding is a constant learning experience with everything always changing and evolving. With every competition I strive to improve upon the previous one - enhancing a weaker body part or stepping on stage more shredded than before. In that way I feel like a beginner in a sport that has no limits. At times it can be a bit discouraging but it's always a challenge and gives me a great feeling of accomplishment.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I will be competiting in the upcoming Alberta Championships. Wish me luck!

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Set realistic goals for yourself then start moving towards them. It's a slow process. I've seen many potential bodybuilders set lofty goals then stop training when they don't attain them. Stay level headed. You may win one show then come in dead last in the next - that's the nature of the sport. There is always someone better than you who's been training longer and knows more than you do. Beating yourself from the previous show is the ultimate goal - not beating the guy down the street. You can't control who shows up or what they've done, you can only control yourself. Try not to be too selfish with what you know. Share what you've learned and you may learn something in return. Everyone has their secrets but everyone gets help from someone, so help them back.

Proper dieting is just as important as working out - but reward yourself too. Life is too short to be eating chicken breasts everyday. Don't sacrifice good form for weights that are too heavy. Move up slowly. Half-assed form will yield half-assed results. Find someone you trust and listen to that one person. Everyone suddenly becomes an expert when your getting ready for a show and has an opinion on what you should or shouldn't be doing. Those people don't know anything. Be professional if you win, be professional if you lose. Bodybuilding can be a great supplement to your life but can cause you great misery if you let it dominate you. If you can't find any joy in it then you shouldn't be involved. Train hard, be consistent, and have fun!

    Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Kevin Levrone, Jeff Willet and Arnold (of course). Also my mentors Dan Dufresne and Mike Todd who taught me everything I know.
