How Did You Get Started?
I've always been intrigued by bodybuilding because my dad was a fan as I was growing up. I had a close friend do her first show at 40 years old so I decided I had no excuses not to give it a try. My husband convinced me I could be successful at it. I got hooked up with the right people at Beverly, then my friend Gary coached me through my first 3 shows and now I'm a national level competitor. I love it!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I've trained for nearly 20 years and have tried so many different things but the philosophy of training a body part one day a week has worked best for me. Any more than that and I don't fully recover as my workouts are usually pretty intense. I prefer a schedule kind of like this:
Sample Training Schedule:
Cardio varies from off season to prep, usually an hour to hour 1/2 during prep, off season only 3-4 days a week for 30-40 min. abs are done as needed, usually a couple days a week.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
For off season, higher protein and overall calories help me grow, for contest time, good protein sources, chicken, turkey, beef, fish, rotating carbs, low fats are typical.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Bodybuilding has given me the opportunity to share a side of me I always knew was there, but couldn't figure out how to express. It gives me an opportunity to get on stage and shine! I get to show off all the hard work that months of training and dieting has produced. I get to challenge myself to be better than the time before. Most of all, I love how it makes me feel about myself. I get a great sense of accomplishment from competing.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I plan to compete for quite a while, God willing. I'd like to compete at the national level until I obtain a pro card, then I would be honored to compete in the IFBB.
2005 Kentucky state 1st Heavyweight and Overall 2006 Northern Kentucky 1st Middleweight and Overall 2006 Junior Nationals 6th Light-heavy weight
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Be patient when you are first starting. Bodybuilding is a journey to the stage. You must learn to enjoy, respect and absorb the process. The end result is the reward, and it doesn't come overnight. It takes months to prepare properly for a show. Seek out the advice of someone who has competed before and knows what they are doing so that you are best prepared when you step on stage. And most of all, be prepared to endure a challenge! It's hard work, but it's fun and the reward is well worth it!
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
My favorite bodybuilders would have to be Arnold, of course-he is still one of the pioneers of the sport, Corey Everson sparked my interest in women's bodybuilding when I was a kid, and my favorite active pro-bodybuilder has got to be Lisa Auckland. She has a physique that I would like to someday resemble. I have admired her physique for some time now because she is both beautiful and quite muscular which is what I strive to be.
