How Did You Get Started?

I moved back to Canada in September 2005 after living and traveling the US for 3 years in my job as an Interior Designer. Living in hotels and eating in restaurants for nearly every meal, my only workouts consisted of an occasional run every now and then; I had gained more than 20 pounds. Having turned 30 in April 2005 I was no closer to reaching my personal goal of being in the best shape in my life. I joined a gym as soon as I moved to Calgary and hired a personal trainer. I knew that this was a step that I had to take. This was my chance to make a fresh new start and create a new outlook and healthy fitness routine for my new life back in Canada.

I started working out 5 days a week and showing some progress, my trainer suggested that I consider competing in a figure competition. I quickly dismissed the suggestion telling him how crazy that was and it was something I could never do, however... famous last words. After some continuous suggestion I decided to do some research on competing and met with local IFBB Figure Pro Deborah Leung. She was a wealth of knowledge and provided me with the motivation and reality of what I was in for. And so I made the decision to train for my first figure competition. I went from 136.5 pounds to 107 pounds in approximately 37 weeks.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I train with weights five days a week, one body part per day and cardio 6 times per week. My typical schedule looks like this:

-> Monday: Arms

-> Tuesday: Shoulders

-> Wednesday: Chest

-> Thursday: Back

-> Friday: Off

-> Saturday: Off

-> Sunday: Legs

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I try to eat clean all year round but I do have a sweet tooth that needs attention every now and then.

Meal One: Eat 4 egg whites and 1/2 cup of oats with a Tbsp of glutamine and 1 TBSP flax oil Meal Two: Eat 3 oz of chicken with 8 asparagus spears Meal Three: Eat 1 can tuna and 1 red or yellow pepper Meal Four: Eat 3 oz of eye of round beef, and a 3 oz baked potato Meal Five: 1/2 of a grapefruit Meal Six: Eat 1/2 cup of oats and a 30 gram low carb, low fat whey protein shake and 1 Tbsp of glutamine Meal Seven: Eat 4 egg whites and 3/4 cup green beans

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I keep it pretty simple Glutamine, Multivitamin-Mineral, Omega 3-6-9. I also love, love, love Whey Gourmet and BSN for protein powder. I love the Banana Nut Bread.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love fitness for how it makes me feel first and foremost. It is a great way for me to deal with the daily pressure of life. It was an amazing eye opener for me as I always thought I was fit, and that was the reality, I "thought" I was. I no longer have the aches and pains that I used to experience.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

  • Near future goals are to build my shoulders and back.
  • I dream of earning my Pro Card, that is my main goal right now.
  • I was lucky enough to be featured on the cover of the Oxygen Fat Loss Issue in Jan 2007 and that alone was a dream come true.
  • To continue to do more fitness modeling, shoot with some of the well known photographers and build my portfolio up.
  • I would love to grace the cover of Muscle and Fitness.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Enlist the help of a trainer! I would be lost without my trainer. She keeps me on track and keeps it real for me.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Debbie Leung, she is a great mentor to me and has brought me so far in such a short amount of time. Jennifer Nicole Lee and Alicia Marie as I hope to have the same success with fitness modeling that they have. Jenny Hendershot; her Phat Camps rock and has the best energy of anyone I know.
