How Did You Get Started?

As a child I was always interested in bodybuilding due to the fact that my dad and more intensely my uncle were both competing at an International level. So when they competed in the shows that I could go to, I would attend. I would get to go backstage and see everything that was going on. From the very first show I went to all ever I told anyone was that I wanted to do bodybuilding one day.

I started weight training at the age of about 17. I had played basketball for 7 years at a state level but soon became more interested in the 'iron'. So when this happened I tried to learn as much as I could about nutrition, working out and further ways to get the most out of your training/body. This was achieved by asking my family members, reading and researching, then applying what I learned to myself.

This is done year round using HIIT sprints on a cross stepper (mostly) for about 10-12 minutes after my weights session. During Pre-contest I will add in a Low Intensity Cardio session when it is required to drop more bodyfat.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

After exploring different approaches in regards to nutrition I found that my body responds quite well to most eating plans. But the one that I normally always use is 45-50% Protein, 45-50% Carbs, 15-20% Fats. This is great for me as it allows me to build muscle and stay in good condition. I try and keep most of my carbs around my workout and then fill most of the other meals of the day with protein, fats, and veggies.

Offseason Example:

    Meal 1 (Pre-workout):

    • Oats
    • Protein Shake

    • or
    • Eggs

    Meal 2 (Post-workout):

    • Protein with Simple Carbs

    Meal 3:

    • Lean Protein Source with Complex Carbohydrates
    • Veggies

    Meal 4:

    • Same as meal 3

    Meal 5:

    • Lean Protein Source
    • Some form of Fats
    • Veggies

    Meal 6:

    • Same as Meal 5

    Meal 7:

    • Shake with some form of Fats

These are the food sources I use for my above diet:

I will change up my source almost everyday but still keep my macronutrients the same. The Calorie range I work from will vary whether its offseason or pre-contest but I general I stay between 2200-3500 calories.

During Pre-contest I will rotate my carbs to keep my body burning fat at an accelerated rate. I also my end up switching to 50% protein, 30% Carbs and 20% Fats, if I feel that I need to get the last few pounds of fat off.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

Because I class the sport as one of the most disciplined sports one can do. There is not much that comes close to seeing your body in contest condition, and knowing what you went through to get it there. Also when you win a show the satisfaction that's felt is unbelievable.
