How Did You Get Started?
It all started for me in Jan. 2003 when I ballooned to 246 lbs. I had taken a management position and was no longer doing physical work. 246 lbs on a 5'9" frame is not pretty. I went to the doctor for a checkup and my blood pressure and cholesterol were borderline high and I refuse to take meds. I changed my eating habits and started doing cardio for 1 hour and day 6 days a week. I lost 53 lbs down to 193 but I lost a lot of muscle so I decided to join Gold's Gym in July 2003 and start weight training which I hadn't done since high school.
I had several trainers tell me which supplements to use and I tried about 6 different protein powders. That's when I met my fiancé and she introduced me to Jim Riggs the president of Schwartz Laboratories in Jan/Feb 2004 and that's when I started using their products which were the only ones that didn't upset my digestive tract. Jim was kind enough to take me under his wing and explain the importance of proper supplementation.
That's when I got the idea that I would like to compete but my fiancé (now ex) started telling me she didn't think I had what it took. In Feb. 2006 we split up and I again confided in Jim Riggs and he told me he thought I could do it so we started taking pictures and I started a very rigorous training program of my own, but wasn't seeing the results I wanted. Then I met my wife at the gym and she told me that I could do whatever I put my mind to but I needed to surround myself with good people so I introduced her to Jim and he introduced me to Frank Castelluccio the best trainer in the Cincinnati area who knew the Schwartz supplement line.
This was in the middle of August 2006. It wasn't until the end of Aug. that finances allowed me to start training with Frank. Frank was able to take me from 201 lbs and about 10-12% body fat to 174 1/4 lbs and about 5-5 1/2% body fat when I stepped on stage Oct. 14, 2006. I think he is a genius! Frank had to start with a clean slate. I didn't know how to pose or what some of the poses were he was very patient with me and taught me everything I know and I was able to make him and Jim proud when I took 1st in the masters division of my first show. I dedicate that to Jim, Frank and my wonderful supportive wife.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

Tuesday was Legs
Wednesday was Back (arms or just Bi's always did arms)
Thursday was Shoulders (chest optional or Tri's always did chest)
Friday start rotation over
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Over the period of about 13 weeks Frank changed my diet about 3-4 times due to my body adjusting and losing weight and body fat too quick at times. We started of with about 3800 calories eating 7 times a day with only 2 meals protein drinks. Then we went to 4200 calories and eating 8 times again only 2 drinks. Then when went 5000 calories a day eating 8 times this one lasted 2 weeks. Then we started working back down and show time got closer.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love to lift and be in the gym and try to push myself. I also liked to watch the transformation that takes place when you diet down and get dry and hard. It's a great feeling of pride and accomplishment.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I will be competing in a show Oct 28 in Cincinnati and then take 9-10 months to train with Frank and gain size in my chest and legs. Legs are #1 on the list to increase in size. Then diet down for 2-3 more shows in the fall of 2007.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Listen to your Trainer/nutritionist and never be afraid to call them with questions or concerns. Frank takes about 3-5 calls a day from me especially the final week before the show. I get real concerned about goofing up.
