How Did You Get Started?

After I graduated from The University of Alabama ('03) where I was All-American long jumper, I continued trained with my college coach. I had qualified for the U.S. Olympics team trial in '04 and was trying to keep the dream alive trying to get on the '05 U.S. World Team.

I began working as a personal trainer at Gold's Gym in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in January '05. I met Ron Wedgeworth another trainer at Gold's who promoted the Mr. Tuscaloosa show. He encouraged me to compete in his show. I was interested but was still dedicated to my track & field training. I had always been a larger than normal long jumper where the average long jumper is 6' 0" 175-185 I was 6' 2" 203.

In May for some reason I started to get tired of going to track practice but wanted to spend more time building my muscles rather than training with Olympic lifts building power and explosion. I saw the results of my new training rapidly so I made the decision to retire my spikes and hit the weights just as hard as I had hit the track.

I started training for Ron's show in June. I dieted for six weeks and got second in the Mr. Tuscaloosa division and second in Open Heavyweights. One month later I competed in the Alabama State show and got second once again in the Heavy's. I have been addicted ever since.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I have always been a competitor, bodybuilding has given me the unique ability of competing against myself first and foremost plus I get to compete with others. I love the preparation you go through for a show. It's cool being backstage with the other competitors; there is a comradely I have never experienced in any other sport. I'm addicted to the response of the crowd when I come out on stage.
