How Did You Get Started?
I got started as a teenager because I just liked the way the body could look, and I wanted to look muscular. As for competing, I always liked a challenge , and competing seemed to me to be a big challenge.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I like the 5 day workout plan:
Sample Training Week:
Wednesday: Shoulders and Traps
Thursday: Biceps and Triceps
Friday: Quads, Hamstrings and calves
I have no set workout plan for each day, however I vary EVERYTHING INCLUDING EVERY EXERCISE every time I go into the gym so my muscles don't get used to the same thing. My weight training sessions are never more than 45 minutes including a few sets of ab work.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I eat clean good quality protein from various sources like tuna,93% lean meat, chicken breasts(skinless),whey protein, low fat cottage cheese, egg whites.
Carbohydrates come from oatmeal, sprouted bread and potatoes (yams and regular):
I always consume good fats like smart balance products and flax oil and nuts. And during the off-season if I want something I don't deprive myself and I never ever go more than 3 hours without eating.
For Contest Dieting:
I eat a diet of all these above foods 3000 calories a day: 45% carbs 40% protein and 15% fats
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Tribestan - It's an excellent natural testosterone booster.
Glutamine - For recovery 2x a day 5 grams in the am and after workouts.
Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein for additional protein.
MHP-Secretagogue One - Especially for the masters bodybuilders the older you are I believe the better it works.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Bodybuilding has helped me in all areas of my life. I love the whole lifestyle, the eating clean, training and seeing your body change from one year to another and while dieting. But most of all I like being onstage at my best. Showing off what I have done to get there.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
Well, I plan to compete every year doing 2-3 contests. Maybe next year do the WNBF Mr. Exercise Model Search, but right now I am competing on Sept. 23 in the Mount Laurel NJ 5th annual South Jersey.
I have competed in 21 contests my first place finishes are:
- 1999 NGA Northeastern Hernandez Classic First Place- Novice Middleweight
- 2001 NBI USA Pro-Am First Place- Men's medium height and best poser
- 2003 USNBA USA Overall Winner
- 2004 NGA Mr. Natural Philadelphia-Overall Master's Winner
- 2004 NPC Mid-Atlantic Natural Classic-Overall Master's Winner
- 2005 NPC New Jersey First Place-Middleweight
- 2005 NABBA US Open First Place-Men's medium height class
I have placed in the top 5 in many other shows but these are my first place finishes. I train at Fit For Life Fitness Center in Cranford , New Jersey and am a Certified personal fitness trainer by NESTA.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
I would say, BE CONSISTENT! If you train consistently and eat clean most of the time, over years you will have to progress, but taking off a week here and there or sitting out a month will set you back, The whole thing just takes time so don't miss workouts.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
My favorite bodybuilders were Frank Zane, Sergio Oliva and Lee Labrada. They all had unbelievable physiques. As for today's bodybuilders, I like Melvin Anthony, he has symmetry like the old school guys and I also like Vince Taylor.
