How Did You Get Started?

Bodybuilding started as a personal goal for me and snowballed from there. I had no intention of competing for so many years or taking it to this level but one show lead to the next and I continued to improve ever so slightly year after year so I was encouraged to set my goals higher each time. Then I met Cathy Savage and competing became a fun hobby that I truly enjoy being a part of! Today, I have a hard time envisioning a year in my life without my contest prep and travel schedule to look forward to!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I love being at the gym and training so "more" has worked for me (although I don't think it's necessary.) When it fits into my schedule I like:

    Shoulders on Mondays:
    3 exercises, 3 sets each (12 reps, 10 reps, 8 reps).

    Chest & Tris on Tuesday:
    3 exercises/body part, 3 sets each.

    Legs on Wednesday:
    Concentrating on a variation of a squat, a lunge then an isolating exercise for hamstrings and/or glutes, then calves.

    Thursday: Off

    Bi's & Back on Friday:

    My biceps are not very well developed so I do them 1st while they are good and strong then finish with back (including an exercise for lower back.) I try to do abs every other day no matter what (this is another weak area of mine) I start by concentrating on the lower portion, then upper portion, then obliques. I try to do at least one weighted exercise for abs because they are a muscle and I feel they should be "built" for maximum development.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I see the best results when I eat the same thing at the same time every day, each meal precisely measured (fortunately I don't require a lot of variety on a daily basis!) My nutrition plan is very balanced, I don't eliminate food groups. It's loosely based on "The Zone".

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I use supplements only when I travel and that's only because it's impossible to make an egg white omelet in a hotel room! I feel like I could always improve on my diet and the foods that I eat first. If my diet was perfect (which it almost never really is) I would probably then turn to supplements for additional improvements. I DO use a multivitamin to get the nutrients I'm missing when on a restricted diet. Also, a calcium supplement because of some family health problems.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I physically don't feel well when I don't workout. I don't have energy and feel cranky and unmotivated. I love fitness because it makes me feel good! I love competing because it has challenged me beyond my comfort zone and it's extremely rewarding to look back at what I have accomplished. I also love motivating others. I think the fact that I am 39-years old, a mother and a business owner makes others feel as though if I can do it, they can too!

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

No plans! Just to stay involved in the sport of fitness by way of training, judging, etc. and to continue to enjoy what I'm doing! When it becomes "work" I will retire. Also, to maintain a high level of physical fitness (even as I turn 40 and this becomes more of a challenge!)

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Honestly, the 1st thing I tell potential competitors to do is to go to Camp Savage or Savage Sunday Sessions (or something similar) this is the best way to meet/speak to other competitors, see how you compare and if you are going to like doing what is necessary to prepare for a show. Not to mention you get personal help from the most knowledgeable resource in the country - Cathy Savage herself! (Sorry that isn't a sales pitch, it's the truth)

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

I am so impressed with Mandy Stefanckz. She just started competing last year and is just rocking the stage. She's beautiful head to toe (hair, face, and physique) not to mention classy and talented. I love the way she carries herself, speaks at the mic and moves in her routine! She presents herself like a pro every time!

Some of my other favorites are Mia Finnegan, Cynthia Eckman, Wendi West... too many to mention there's so much talent out there!
