How Did You Get Started?
I trained very consistently and made great gains in High school for football. After 'falling into the wrong crowd' I consistently lost everything I gained. After some time in the military I started working as a Firefighter and soon realized my current fitness level wasn't good enough with my smaller frame for the work ahead of me.
I quickly regained my passion for the iron and have been at it ever since. I started working as an EMT backstage at some of the local shows and became very interested in competing. I hooked up with Beverly International and they helped me with my diets for the first few years I competed. I competed as a bantamweight for several years and did OK at local events.
At one of the shows a couple of years ago I noticed several of the competitors were from JP's Premier Fitness, and they were doing well. Luckily this gym was on my side of Indy and my wife Rebecca (Fitness competitor of the week #69) and I went to check it out. We've been there ever since and the positive atmosphere and attitudes have been beneficial to say the least.
Jon and Heather Pedigo (Heather is amateur of the week #287, and just took second this year at the Jr. Nationals in the heavyweight class) are the owners and have created an awesome hardcore, family feel of a gym, Come check it out if you're ever in Indy. Rebecca and I can't thank them enough for all their help and support, along with the support of every other Premier member.
This has been a good year for me. After taking 2nd at last years Indiana State show in the lightweight class.

- NPC Jr. Nationals- 3rd bantamweight (first year at the jr's)
- NPC Indiana State- 1st lightweight Open

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
p>I follow a 2 on/1 off plan for the most part. The main reason I do this is I work every third day and I usually do my cardio there. (unless its contest time, then its 5-6 days a week, twice a day as it gets closer)
My split changes but a sample is:
Depends on the time of year, but I usually pyramid my weights up for everything. 12/10/8/6 with the weights going up consecutively. With legs the starting # is 15-20 and drops down.
Usually 12-16 sets per body part. Pretty basic and mostly basic free-weight movements. I don't really change my training much coming into a show. The heavier weight put it on, it will keep it on. With my frame I don't need to be stringy and flat from high reps.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I used Beverly for quite awhile, and they were very easy to work with and I STILL love their products, but now I do my own diet. I take advice from Jon and Heather and the mirror and adjust my diet accordingly. I purchased Chris Aceto's book "Championship Bodybuilding" and pretty much use it to a 'T' to come in shape. I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks again to my wife, I use the books ratio's and have a food list that she plugs into excel and it pretty much does all the math and percentages for me. I've tried to set down and learn how, but without her I'd still be working on my diet from 6 weeks ago.
I usually start cleaning up my diet 16 weeks out, even though I followed an off season diet this past off season. I feel like I need that much time to come down slow to hold onto muscle. I basically drop my carbs about %25 every few weeks till I'm below 100 the last few weeks to dial it in. It's worked well!
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I love the taste of Beverly's Ultra Size, and I know it's a quality product. I've used it for years. I've recently found that I also like Dymatize Elite Whey for the price and taste. I use creatine/glutamine in my post workout shakes most of the year. Flax/fish oils are priceless to me during a diet for energy. Ultra 40/Mass Aminos from Beverly. I can tell when I stop taking them. My pumps and energy drop.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Eating well and going to a great gym is so much a part of me and my wife's life that it resembles a religion to a point. I enjoy the commitment and dedication that it takes to be the best you can be. Once I get into the groove, I actually enjoy the structure of the diet and pre-contest mode. I love the people and the positive attitude that surrounds us. I also love the fact the sacrifices I make today make me better tomorrow. One day my children, and their children will be in awe of what we accomplished. That's something to be proud of.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
After doing shows every year for the past 6 years, many times more than one, I'm ready to take a year off and put on some quality size. Unlike most BB's, the judges tell me my legs are good, but I need to thicken up the top. So my plans are to put on some quality size, especially my chest and back/traps.
I just came off my last show so I'm in the process of setting out the plan of attack. I will come back bigger and better than ever! I just need to take a year off for a change and take the time to do it. I would like to come back to the Jr's as a lightweight, and win the class of course. Time and effort will tell...
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Surround yourself with positive people and good things will happen. Consistency is the key to success. Last but not least; Have a realistic goal, set a plan to achieve that goal, and don't let anything get in your way!
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
Does figure count? My wife comes first, she is always on me, especially contest time. She took this year off and was as hardcore about her diet as I was, (and by the way, she has come a long way since her 'amateur fitness of the week' pics) which kept me on the straight and narrow. Jon and Heather Pedigo are great bodybuilders and a wonderful help to me. Jessica Wright and Jennifer Gates (who both also took 2nd's in their respective figure classes at the Jr's this year... go PREMIER FITNESS!) have been an inspiration for us watching them bang away at their pro cards. I admire Mark Dugdale, I also loved Kevin Levrone and Shawn Ray. I have respect for anyone willing to make the effort to get in shape and step onstage.
