How Did You Get Started?

Being raised in a military household while growing up showed me that being fit is essential to having a healthy lifestyle. My love for weight training came when I was in high school. I was actively involved in cheerleading, track & field and I was a member of the dance team. During my senior year, I had the opportunity to have a half day or take an additional class.

I decided to look at the schedule and see what other classes were available. I noticed there was an opening for weight training and I decided to give it a try. At the time, there were only three females in a class full of males. The teacher was just as tough on us as he was on the guys.

I gained a true appreciation for weight training and by the end of my senior year I was out-lifting and out-squatting a few of the guys in my class. Not only did this class make me stronger, but it also allowed me to learn how to use the machines and apply the proper techniques.

I had the opportunity a few years ago to compete in a Military MWR Bodybuilding competition while overseas and I placed first within my category. I was so excited! I made a promise to myself that once I made it back to the states I would enter into my first NPC Figure competition.

In November 2010, that promise became a reality when I competed and placed first in both of my categories (Novice Figure Class C and Open Figure Class E) for the NPC MET-Rx Rocky Mountain Championships! I also won the overall award for the Novice category and qualified for Nationals!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I like to tailor my workout plan to whatever it is that I am trying to achieve for that particular show. I complete 3 sets of 15 reps for each exercise (with the exception of abs, which I do to failure. I also do cardio every day of the week. During the beginning of my competition training I start off with 30 minutes/day and gradually increase each week by 10-15 minutes (some weeks may remain the same depending on how my training is coming along).

Failure - That point in an exercise at which you have so fully fatigued your working muscles that they can no longer complete an additional repetition of a movement with strict biomechanics. You should always take your post-warm-up sets at least to the point of momentary muscular failure, and frequently past that point.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

When I'm competing I eat 5 to 6 meals a days. Depending on the body part that I am working for that day, I alternate between proteins, carbs and fats. When I'm off-season, I enjoy treating myself for all of the hard work that I have accomplished while training for my competition (without overindulging too much-My favorite treat is Oreos and milk!)

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I was able to see great results with the help of Gaspari Whey Protein, BCAAs, Glutamine, Multivitamins and Udo's Oil.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love fitness because it allows you to challenge your body and see the results! You also gain valuable knowledge that you can continue to apply throughout your life. Fitness is never-ending...there is always an opportunity to better improve upon your current routine and for those that are just taking on a fitness regiment, there are so many tools available to help you tailor a plan that works just for you!

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

What motivates me is knowing that I can also motivate and inspire someone else to live a healthy lifestyle.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

I decided to compete in a figure competition because I have always loved fitness and working out but this allowed me to take my love for fitness to another level. It allowed me to challenge myself and step outside of my comfort zone and every day routine. Seeing my body transform each week allowed me to stay focused towards my goal and it motivated me to work even harder!

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

My future plans are to continue to live a healthy and fit lifestyle! I believe that within this field you are continuously growing and learning. I just recently qualified for Nationals and I am looking forward to hitting the stage to compete for my pro card. My dream would be to stand alongside those who have help motivate me to achieve my goal. I would also love to start a fitness modeling career. The sky is the limit and I've only just begun!

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

I would tell them to continue to work hard towards their goal! If they are new to the sport, I would recommend they hire a personal trainer, preferably someone who has competed before because they are able to bring valuable knowledge to the table and motivate them throughout the entire process. Keep in mind that this is your journey! Stay positive, have fun and enjoy yourself!
