How Did You Get Started?
In my teens, I was a decathlon champion in Peru. Part of my preparation was to weight train. I realized that I had a predisposition for this sport because my body quickly showed positive results from the weight training. I then competed in powerlifting where I also was champion in Peru. With this base, I decided to compete in bodybuilding.
My first competition was in the year 1993 where I won my first Peruvian national competition. In 1994 I again won the national championship. In 1997, after winning the national championship for the third time, I represented Peru in my first international championship in Brazil. I placed 6th. In 1999 I won the most important show in Peru - Mr. Peru Overall. In 2001 I again won the two national championships and was selected to preresent my country in the Ibero-American championship in Mexico City where I placed third.
My next competition was the NPC Sunshine Classic in Ft. Lauderdale in March 2006. I placed second in my category. I was proud of my results because it was my first competition in the United States and because I hadn't competed in over five years. This gave me the impetus para seguir training and I again competed in November 2007 in the NPC Mr. South Florida. I won the overall 35 years and also won the heavyweight category. I hope to continue this streak by competing in the Southern States this year!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Over the years I have changed my training based on how my body has matured and researching new training techniques. Below is the training sessions that I used to train for my last competition. I trained 6 days a week the three months before the competition.
Sample Workout Week:
I do 20 reps in the first set of each exercise. Then I do 15, 10, and 8 reps. I do cardio everyday for 40 minutes before my first meal.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
My Diet Plan:
I eat 6 - 7 meals a day.
10 egg whites
2 cups of oatmeal with raisins and bananas
200 grams of beef
200 grams chicken breast
2 cups white rice
1 large can of tuna in water
steamed or grilled vegetables
200 grams turkey breast
1 large baked or grilled sweet potato
200 grams of steak
grilled or steamed vegetables
