How Did You Get Started?
During my high school football days I always trained hard in the weight room to keep my edge. As a result I managed to develop a fairly muscular physique. As I got older, I began to weight train and exercise after falling off the wagon and gaining about 100 pounds of excess weight. Moreover, I've always been a fan of bodybuilding and after losing the weight I saw the potential in my own physique to be able to pursue my dream of bodybuilding.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I use a 5 day training split with two rest days. This allows me to train hard and heavy on back days while getting enough rest time in between to be able to hit legs heavy later in the week. I train as heavy as possible without compromising form and with as much intensity as possible. I use very little rest in between sets and when training with a partner we follow the you go-I go format. My training schedule is as follows:
- Monday: Back/Traps - 12-16 sets
- Tuesday: Chest - 12-16 sets
- Wednesdays: Arms - 9-12 sets
- Thursday: Off/Cardio
- Friday: Legs/Calves - 16 sets
- Saturday: Shoulders/Traps - 12-16sets
- Sunday: Off/ Cardio
I maintain cardio even in the off season just to keep my overall conditioning up to par doing about 1-2 hours a week. However I will do as much as 7-14 hours per week in preparation for a contest.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Meal 1: Breakfast/Pre-Workout
Meal 2: Post Workout Shake
- 30-40g Whey Protein
- 100g Simple Carbs (Dextrose)
1-2 8 Oz Glass 2% Milk
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love bodybuilding because it is the perfect metaphor for life; the greater the pain the greater the gain. If you train hard with the grace of God and stay mentally focused you can make great strides in your physique.
What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?
I keep my faith in God and realize that it gives Him glory when I live to my highest potential.
What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?
My wife and my children are at the core of my motivation. I want to be the best that I can be for them. Everything that I do is for them. Hopefully, my will and determination to be great will inspire my children and their children's children for generations to come.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I set no limits and have no boundaries. For the immediate future I plan to train hard for the remainder of 2009 into 2010 and prepare to compete again by early 2010. I look forward to a good and productive year in 2010.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Love what you do. Bodybuilding is one of the greatest sports known to man. To be able to exude such mastery of one's physique is a feat that can only be achieved by the strong at heart. Furthermore, be faithful because no matter what you do in order to attain any level of success you must be faithful to the process.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
I respect anyone who has the gall to train with such intensity that it takes to become a competitive bodybuilder. As far as naming individuals, there are just too many. However, here's a few I'll through out of my hat: Ronnie Coleman, Dexter Jackson, Kai Greene, Victor Martinez, and Layne Norton.
