How Did You Get Started?

I originally started training in the gym when I was 16. When I graduated high school, I saw my first Olympia. I was so impressed with Monica Brant and immediately captivated by the muscular, toned physiques of the ladies competing. I have been an avid trainer ever since however paused to have my children.

I delivered my 3rd child (via 3rd Cesarean) in 2007 and was determined to get my figure back. I became so focused on my training and eating clean that before long, folks at my gym started asking me what competition I was training for. I was taken aback at first, because I was merely trying to get back into shape.

As my confidence started to grow, I started to entertain the idea and ran it by my husband. We discussed it and put a training plan into place. In May 2008, I entered the Mike Francois Classic for my Figure debut. I placed 3rd out of 13 and qualified for Nationals. I spent June overseas and came home and started to prep for my 2nd show. On August 9, I entered the Knox Classic and won my class.

The very next week I entered the Tennessee State Bodybuilding and Figure Championship (also a National qualifier) and won my class and then took the Overall title. On Sept 13, I competed in the East TN Bodybuilding and Figure Expo where I won my class and took the Overall title.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I am a huge believer in Protein, Creatine, BCAA's, Glutamine and Arginine.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

The pay off of living this lifestyle is far greater than an aesthetically pleasing appearance but the ramifications it has on overall health is amazing; and I am not referring to just physical health. It affects the health of my children, the health of my marriage and my mental health in such a positive way!

I don't think it is a coincidence that all 3 of my children (ages 10, 3 and 18 months) love fish, broccoli, salad and edamame. More importantly, I hope that one day, I will have done right by my children by raising them in an environment where they see that physical activity AND good nutrition are the ways of life.

It isn't a chore nor is it a sacrifice. It just is what you do every day. It isn't my life, but it is my lifestyle. Last, I want to stress that being physically active after a newborn (and surgery) didn't zap my energy - it created the energy I needed to get me through each day.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I am competing to earn a pro card at the 2008 NPC National Bodybuilding & Figure Championships in Atlanta in November. From there, I will get the judges feedback and spend some time working on what needs improvement before deciding my 2009 contest schedule.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

From early days, my favorites were Amy Fadhli and Monica Brant. Monica is still a favorite, as well as Maggie Diubaldo and Jessica Paxson-Putnam (whom I have discovered is just a pretty on the inside as she is on the outside).
