How Did You Get Started?

Growing up, I struggled with my weight, weighing 200+ pounds at just 11-years-old and standing less than 5'8" tall. By making a few dietary and lifestyle changes, by sophomore year of high school I had lost 50 pounds and grew a few inches in height, but still had a high body fat percentage, what I like to call "skinny-fat". It was in the summer of 2006 that I began bodybuilding and have never once looked back since. I competed in my first bodybuilding competition in March 29th 2008, followed by another April 26th, and a third May 10th.

I competed again on April 11th 2009 and then again June 12th 2010 (my first show in the NPC and as a light-heavyweight). Since first joining a gym, I have become a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, am perusing a degree in Applied Exercise Science at Springfield College, and found work as a fitness model...bodybuilding is my life!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

My current off-season workout plan changes regularly in order to keep my muscles "guessing" and delay the onset of a plateau but here is a routine that is the foundation for most of what I do in the gym. Cardio is done upon waking for 20-30 minutes on a treadmill at a brisk walk on a slight incline and on days when I have a cheat meal, I usually do an additional 20 minutes before my last meal.

Day 1: Arms

Day 2: Delts/Traps/Calves

Day 3: Rest

Day 4: Back

Day 5: Chest/Abs

Day 6: Rest

Day 7: Legs

As I mentioned though, this is just a sample and it is very rare for me to complete the same workout more than once per month. I am constantly changing the exercises and rep ranges I use. Also, I often utilize various techniques such as drop sets, negatives, rest-pause, and super sets.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

My current off-season meal plan is as follows:

Meal 1:

Meal 2:

Meal 3:

Meal 4:

Meal 5:

Meal 6:

All food weights and measures listed are cooked, I drink a minimum of a gallon of water per day (usually 1.5) along with diet soda and crystal light in moderation, and I flavor foods with hot sauce, salsa, & "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray. Immediately post-workout, I have a shake containing simple carbohydrates and whey protein. This is just a sample of a typical day's eating that I have simplified for bodybuilding.com purposes. I have one to two cheat meals per week in the off-season, which are usually at an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant where I will eat up to 17+ specialty rolls in an hour or so!

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I accredit much of my 2010 off-season gains thus far to utilizing the products produced by my sponsor, NRG-X Labs Sports Supplements. NRG-X Labs Sports Supplements are made in the U.S.A., NSF certified, and cGMP certified so they are certainly a company you can trust! My current supplement stack is as follows:

Meal 1:

  • NRG-X Labs Vital Core (3 caps)

25 Minutes Pre-Workout:

During Workout:

  • NRG-X Labs Anabolic Raptor (2 scoops) - I continuously add water (4oz at a time) so this lasts through my last set.

Immediately Post-Workout:

  • NRG-X Labs Sublime Whey (2 scoops)

Meal 5:

  • NRG-X Labs Vital Core (3 caps)

Meal 6:

  • NRG-X Labs MaXX Pump (4 caps)

The above stack covers all of my bases including a quality protein supplement (Sublime Whey), pre-workout energy/pump (MaXX Pump & Overdose), intra-workout amino acids/pump (Anabolic Raptor), complex multi-vitamin and greens supplement (Vital Core & Xtreme Greens). I also use MaXX Digestion as needed (to support healthy digestion, especially after cheat meals) and am currently running a two-bottle long cycle of Alpha MaXX Black Label, a natural testosterone booster that has given me incredible strength gains!

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love bodybuilding because it gives me the opportunity to sculpt my body as if it is a work of art, adding inches here and chiseling away there to create an end result that I am proud to call Anthony Tedesco. Never was I a fan of team sports because I felt as if your personal hard work often goes unrecognized and is lumped together as a whole with the actions of your teammates. With bodybuilding, you are your own maker and the sum total of all of your failures and successes. There is no team to take credit for what you personally achieve and nobody to blame but yourself if you mess up! Also, I am probably one of the least athletic people to walk the face of this planet, so bodybuilding gives me the opportunity to excel without having to have much hand-eye coordination.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

Having been out of shape for the majority of my life, I know what it is like feel disgusted with your body, have no energy or motivation, and be made fun of for being "the fat kid". My childhood is plagued with memories of being embarrassed to take my shirt off and using every possible excuse in the book to avoid gym class. Never again do I want to look in a mirror and get sick over the image staring back at me or run into the health problems that are associated with high body fat percentage and lack of physical activity.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

Whenever I become involved with something, I always strive to be the very best at whatever it is I'm doing and with bodybuilding it is no different. If I am going to put in the amount of dedication and work that I do, I want it to show and be recognized for it therefore I don't want to be just a gym rat; I want to be the best bodybuilder I can possibly be. This may have been one of the factors that convinced me to enter the competitive circuit. My entire life I have been extremely competitive and always wanted to win no matter if it were a debate, get the best grades, or now a first place trophy and title. Do I always win? Absolutely not, but is the times I have fallen down that have motivated me the most to stand back up.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

My future bodybuilding plans are to add quality mass to my frame this off-season, and compete again in either 2011 or 2012, all dependant on whether or not I am satisfied with the progress I have made. I have dreams of becoming an IFBB professional and fully intend on making this dream reality. The next competition I have in mind is the NPC Bev Francis Atlantic States or Collegiate Nationals where I hope to compete at the very top of the light-heavyweight class.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Dedication, determination, and desire…these are three words to live by in this sport. Be patient, stay on top of your nutrition year-round (not just when trying to "cut up"), and train hard! Remember that if making it in this sport were easy, everyone would look like a bodybuilder.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

My favorite bodybuilders are PJ Braun, Evan Centopani, Luis Santiago, and of course Arnold...because what boy didn't idolize the Austrian Oak growing up? PJ Braun is my contest prep coach and although not an IFBB pro (he will be soon, hopefully this October), the person I look up to the most in this sport. He has become someone I not only consider a phenomenal coach, but a good friend of mine who I can comfortably approach at any time. As a fellow CT resident, and member of the same gym as me, Evan Centopani is my favorite professional bodybuilder. His physique is incredible and having met him multiple times, he has a personality to match which is what this sport needs for ambassadors.

I would be very surprised if this man is not holding an Olympia title over the next few years! Luis Santiago is another NPC competitor who I have known since I first got into this sport and see/speak with on an almost daily basis. His words are always very encouraging and the transformation he has made with his body over the past decade is remarkable.

What Features Do You Use On Bodybuilding.com?

I mainly use the Bodybuilding.com SuperSite, which I have found to be a fantastic source of information.
