How Did You Get Started?
This is interesting. I was attending my first PHAT camp of Jen Hendershott's and she put me through some strength holds for Fitness shows and suggested I try doing a show. Having no dance or gymnastics background she suggested I try a Figure show. To which I said, "Uh... I don't think I could do that." Jen then looked me up & down and said, "You're probably right."
With that playful dare it was game on!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I try to vary what I do, never duplicating the same workout in a 3 week span.
Monday: Shoulders & Abs, Cardio:
- High Row - warm-up
- Front Raise
- Lat Raises
- Bent Row Rear Delt Rope Pulls
- Upright rows
- Hanging Leg Raises
- Swiss Ball Crunches
Tuesday: Legs & Cardio:
- Leg press
- Smith Squats
- Leg extentions
- Seated leg Curl
- Stadium Stairs
I love leg day, unlike most.
Wednesday: Back, Abs & Cardio:
- High Row
- Seated Row
- Wide grip pull-ups
- Rear Delt Flye
- Lat Pull down
- Single Dumbbell Rows
- Hanging Leg Raises
- Swiss Ball Crunches
Thursday: Chest & Cardio:
- Push ups/Decline
- Dumbbell press
- Bench Press
- Incline Press
- Decline Press
- Flye Machine
- Machine Chest Press
I don't train chest too much or very heavy. My own preference.
I may throw in a little on another body part this day. Whatever pops to mind.
Friday: Bicep/Triceps & Cardio:
- Alternating Curls
- Concentration Curls
- Kick backs
- Skull crushers
- Cable press downs
I usually teach or participate in an hour and a half Boot Camp class at the Club I work at. It's a total body work out and a nice change of pace.
I usually hang out with family, play outside or tackle some yard projects.
I vary these work outs and may throw other things in but always aim to do 3 to 6 sets depending if I feel like a heavy day or not. Sets vary from 8 to 20 reps. Never the same thing twice in 3-4 weeks.
My cardio varies, I like the Elliptical, Stair or Step Mills. I also have become a fan of the Expresso Bike. I also really enjoy Step Classes. I run Stairs 2-3x a week. This is excellent interval training and great for that Glute-Ham tie-in. I do a lot of Plyometrics in my garage. I love to download workouts from MyBodybeats.com I have a separate MP3 player just for them. Some days I have a hard time getting to the gym, these downloads give me 'no excuses' and plus they help mix it up a bit.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Well my recent diet the end of this last season:
- Just ice water and powder
- A frozen cherry or strawberry or two may find their way in (oops)
- Maybe a bit of Laura Scudder's Salt Free Smooth Peanut Butter
- Lean Protein (5oz or so) Chicken or White fish
- Occasionally Salmon
- 4-5 oz yam or 1 cup brown rice
- Green veggies
- 5oz lean protein
- Lots of green veggies
- Protein shake or shake 'paste'
- Jello for my sweet tooth
Meal 2: Protein Shake
Meal 6: if needed
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Met Rx (Vanilla)
You can cook w/ these and they don't get 'gummy' I slip it in my kids' food all the time. Ssshhhh!
Pride Nutition's Retaliate! Lemonade Flavor
THE BEST! No bloat no gassiness and it has a fantastic flavor!
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Well, one it helps keep my sanity, and foremost it sets a great example for my two young daughters, being healthy and strong and eating right. I feel better about myself when I stick to my routine. I have more energy and just love the rush of a great workout!
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
Well I hope I can continue to pay it forward and continue to help other women make positive choices/changes in their life. I have really learned a lot from Jen over the past couple years and have utilized that knowledge in my own work with my Personal Training clients. I'd like to think I am helping people live a healthier lifestyle, and to never forget to take care of yourself as we do others.
Earning my Pro card at 40+? Maybe... LOL!
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Be true to yourself. Always set new goals once you achieve the ones previously set.
"Believe in yourself if you expect others to follow," a quote from my girl Jenny H.
Never forget to put yourself on "the list" of to-dos.
As a competitor don't ever be afraid to ask for help or guidance from the more experienced in the industry. I have found them to be more than willing to help.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
Hmmm. Let me think...
The wonderful, amazing, kind hearted, beautiful (inside & out), ass kicking, Jen Hendershott, Latisha Wilder, Gina Aliotti, Adela Garcia, Valerie Waugaman, and my good friend, (last but certainly not least!) Nancy Georges.
Tall girls unite!!! LOL. Love ya Nanc.
