How Did You Get Started?
My journey in fitness started June 2006, when my husband and I moved to Austin, TX for his job as a personal trainer at 24hr Fitness. He took my body fat for the first time, and I was shocked to hear what it was, so much so I started crying at his gym in front of his clients. I was 128lbs and 26.5% body fat. I ate maybe 2 times a day (usually Taco Bell) and was working out at a local gym before we moved to Austin.
At that realization, something clicked in my head--I was tired of mediocrity, tired of not getting the body I've always wanted. I had read Oxygen magazines for years but I believed I could never achieve what I saw in those pages. I was voracious for information, and luckily for me, my husband provided me with the training I needed. I began lifting 5x a week under his guidance and also learning on my own. I began running as cardio 5 times a week. The most important change for me of course, was the nutrition. I started small. I still had the things I enjoyed, but I would only have a serving and stop at that. I incorporated fruits, oats, and whey protein into my meal plan and in 2 months, I was down to 110 lbs and 18% body fat.
I knew at that moment I could do anything, even possibly bodybuilding. I didn't get my first glimpse of a bodybuilding show till April 2007 at the Texas Shredder Classic in Austin TX. Once I saw the figure competitors, I was HOOKED. I knew that in one year exactly, I would be stepping on that stage myself. I decided that my place was to be in fitness to help others achieve what I had and became NASM certified trainer in December 07.
On December 31, I started dieting for the Shredder, 17 weeks out. This was the biggest challenge of my life. My husband also dieted with me so we supported each other through our journey to the stage. On April 26, 2008 I stepped onstage and won my first show in a class of 11 girls! I was overjoyed at my accomplishment. I couldn't wait to be back onstage again! I truly owe my hard work to my amazing husband. Without his knowledge, guidance, and expertise, I would never be at this place in my life. I would be the same sad, depressed, and hopelessly confused about how to turn my body into something beautiful. I love you sweetie! What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I do my resistance training 5 times a week. Right now I am lifting heavy 6-10 reps and 4-6 sets.
I like high volume with back. Usually around 20-25 sets of back with:
Tuesday: Biceps And Triceps
All supersetted together.

This is my favorite part of the body and I tend to use triple or even quadruple supersets to get the best activation for shoulders. I start with a press, usually dumbbell, followed with the rest of my shoulder workout in succession.

This is probably my strongest body part. I prefer dumbbells to bench in so here are some definite favorites!

I vary my reps and sets weekly to keep my body guessing during the off season.
During prep, I stick with 12-15 reps for 3-4 sets.
Off-season I walk my dog Silas for cardio daily.
On season I do pre breakfast cardio low intensity for 30 minutes 4 times a week and a track day on Saturday complete with track lunges, plyometrics, sprints, and bleachers.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
My contest diet changes daily depending on my body part trained so my body has to continue guessing.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I also drank Scivation Xtend Branch Chain Amino Acids Watermelon. It helped me get in all the water I needed, tasted AMAZING, and most importantly, helped spare my lean body mass from being used for fuel. I also took a super antioxidant, and a multivitamin.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Who doesn't love to be in shape? I love that I can lift more than most of my male clients. I love that one year ago, I could barely press 40 lb dumbbells for chest press and now I'm pressing 60's for 7. I love every moment in the gym I see a new vein coming through. That scares, yet excites me! I love having pose downs with my husband in the mirror at home. Just because his lat spread is bigger than mine, doesn't mean it will be for long! And most importantly, I love that I've found my niche in life and I can help others to see that, YES! There is no limit to what you can achieve naturally! It takes that inner drive, and determination to pull through to the end.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I have yet to see my true potential as a figure competitor. My plan is to continue building on this foundation I created for myself. That is truly the most amazing part-the journey never ends. My heart is competing--if that means I end up on a national stage great! If not, I want to be the best (1st place every time) in every competition I set for myself. I would love to see me on the cover of Oxygen Magazine. That would be, the ultimate! Continue training my clients and helping them reach their goals!
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Listen to your body! Not one person has the same meal plan, workouts, cardio, etc. Find out what works for YOU! If you hire a trainer, trust him completely to prepare you for the show. There are too many theories about what each competitor does to get ready for a show, and their best practices might not be yours. So don't get caught up in doing something because it worked for someone else. Trust your trainer to know what your body needs.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
Wow, I could go on and on, but Tara Scotti is gorgeous! I loved Anja Langer's bodybuilding physique in the 80's. By and far the most influential person who still continues to inspire my fitness journey is Jamie Eason. She has beauty, brains, delts, and a gorgeous figure period. She is a phenom!
