How Did You Get Started?
I was always the athletic type. It was very difficult for me to deal with the after effects chemotherapy had brought to me, which came in the form of an additional 50 lbs. I decided I had to change my life.I was able to get the first 10 lbs or so off by doing, you guessed it, way too much cardio and eventually decided to do a little research. Conclusion: You mean I can eat more, lift some heavy weights, do less cardio and lose fat?
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I have been very fortunate with every workout plan I have ever tried. There hasn't been one that has NOT worked for me actually. Not to mention, with the right fuel (food) wonderful things can happen, and they sure have. I will say incline sprints, running slides (think big Toboggan slide), stairs, hills, speed skipping and plyometrics are my favorite to slice and dice me up. I am currently enjoying doing some compound lifts to mix things up like digging Squat Cleans & OH Squats right now.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
My base diet has always been 40P/30C/30F. This allows me to always have a constant to go back to when trying out diet manipulations, such as a carb rotation and all those other fun tweaks. The only foods I ever really limit on season are breads, rice & oats due to a minor stomach allergy. I get my carbs in through LOTS of vegetables and sweet potatoes. I do not limit my protein intake or fat intake either. Healthy fats are my friend and I love bison.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
The best supplement out there for making lean gains or cutting is real food first and foremost. Since I cannot get all the required nutrients from food I have my supplement arsenal ready.I may rotate some of these in and out but here is a list of what I will use throughout the year, and sometimes none at all when I need a break.
- Protein Powder (VPX No carb in the morning and ON Casein in the evening)
- Vitamin C
- Green Tea
- Sesapure (for caloric excess or if I ever decide to enjoy a few cocktails)
- Glucorell-R (for quicker carb uptake)
- Levorex (Non Stim fat burner & overall health supp in one)
- ALCAR (Acetyl-l-Carnitine)
- Yohimburn ES (topical fat burner)
- Cardio Breeze (if I need a kick start for AM cardio)
- Glutamine ( L-alanyl-l-glutamine dipeptide)
- Red Blast
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Fitness saved my life in every way. I would not be here today without it. This lifestyle was brought about by a terminal illness and I cannot forget where I came from or how far I've come. I love lifting weights, I love running, I love the way I feel, after a good workout, I LOVE watching what my body can do by making a simple change.
My progress allows me to inspire and motivate others and that is an incredible feeling. You can heal your body by taking good care of it, treating your body with respect and giving it the proper fuel. The best part is I am healing myself from the inside - out, so what you see on the surface comes from within.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I cannot tell you how much respect I have for the men & women that put in the time and effort to compete. I did my first show when I was working full time, going to school nights, and training am/pm, rinse & repeat. It is very time consuming so as long as I still have fun and do it for the right reasons, I will most definitely venture to the stage at some point in 2008.
I have been using the weekend to knock out some photo shoots and yes, a Saturday class when I can fit it in but I truly enjoy helping mentor men & women on fitness forums who come to me for diet, training, help & advice and a little inspiration. I do know that my future will always consist of helping others improve their lives, in some way.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Never give up on your passion in life. A right mind, a clear focus, strength of heart and good intentions will help you fulfill and conquer every goal you set. Life is a blessing, live it with a smile.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
Fitness would have to be Sylvia Tremblay. She is an amazing woman and a wonderful suit designer. If you ever want to know where I get my suits, they will most likely be from Sylvia.
Bodybuilding, up and coming Sally Anne Taylor. I admire her dedication, it is unprecedented. For Figure the award goes to Davana Medina & Valerie Waugaman. Davana had the physique I thought was absolutely perfect. Valerie just took my motivation to the next level.
"The stage is really an avenue to serve others... a challenge… an opportunity for personal growth."
