How Did You Get Started?

When I was a teenager I broke my back in a bad car accident. I put on almost 25lbs and spent 3 months in a body cast. When I got out of it my muscles were atrophied and I felt horrible. I still couldn't do most daily tasks for myself without relying on my mother. To boost my morale and make me feel better she bought me a gym membership.

I started working out, albeit the wrong way, and never looked back. 8 yrs later I was about 165lbs and working out most days in the gym below my building just outside Manhattan, NY. I had a trainer approach me week after week to tell me that, "I had the right frame to compete" and say, "let me train you!" I thought he was crazy and just hitting on me so I declined over and over.

Finally, after months I let him train me. I thought at the very least I would lose a few lbs. Well, after 9 weeks I had lost 30lbs and was on the eve of my first competition. It was the Platinum classic 2003 in New Jersey, I took 4th place and Alicia Marie actually won the overall title. After that I was hooked, It was only about 6 months until I decided to become a personal trainer and continue my career in fitness. Since then I have competed in almost 20 competitions and even won a few!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I am a certified personal trainer NASM, AFAA at Gold's Gym in Methuen Massachusetts. However, we all need a little push to make it through the rigors of training for National Level Competitions. I owe a large part of my success in training to Kim Oddo, who continues to keep my head straight when depleted and tired month after month. He gives me a guideline to follow and it's up to me to develop a well rounded Workout plan.

I use a 4 day split with 3 days rest from weight training. However, it's not unlikely to find me doing some abdominals, cardio or a gentle strength training class at GOLD'S GYM. I train my Shoulders, Back, Legs and Chest on different days alternating where I place my arms in my routine. My shoulders are my nemesis and I try to hit those lightly a second day of the week. Adding them in at the end of another workout.

My back is genetically very developed and quite large in comparison to my arms, shoulders & abs and my quads definitely have a larger sweep than most women in my class. Therefore, building my upper body will be a key mission for attacking that stage in 2007. Cardio varies depending on how conditioned I am for an upcoming competition. You may find me doing anywhere from 55min up to 2-3 hrs per day. I never know until I'm there.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I use a nutrition plan specially developed for my physique by Kim Oddo of www.bodybyo.com I follow a mostly whole fresh food nutrition plan with a balance of vitamins, nutrients and minerals. I eat an average of 5-6 times per day. I include simple and complex carbs with whole food proteins ( replacing 1-2 meals with OPTIMUM WHEY protein powder shakes) There is very little fruit in my diet, however, its chock full of fresh vegetables.

I consume about 1-1.5 gallons of water per day and make sure to take all my supplements when they are supposed to be taken to allow for optimum results. When you follow a routine you can easily manipulate your results, therefore, your physique. IF you have no idea what you are putting in on a daily basis its hard to change what you are doing to achieve a desired look.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I find that 100% Optimum Whey, BCAA's on lift days and glutamine for muscle reparation are KEY to muscle building. Digestive enzymes, EFA's and Antioxidants are also key in a nutrition plan.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I couldn't live a content life without some sort of fitness. Whether its lifting or going for a run. Or its gardening in my backyard. Moving is living! Fitness Is life. I used to be stagnant, overweight and tired ALL the time. It was no way to live and I NEVER want to go back. Fitness is such a great thing; everyone should participate on some level.

Don't let anyone else determine your future! LIVE YOUR DREAM! Others will question you and put you down, call you crazy for doing this. Keep on pushing because the reward is as big as the challenge to get there!

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

I absolutely love Jenny Lynn and Monica Brandt-Peckham Physiques. Both very different but so amazing! New IFBB pro Sonia Adcock, fellow teammate of mine, has the most beautifully feminine physique with a personality to match. For men I truly admire Dex Jackson and Chris Cormier. They are tight, compact and symmetrical, Nice guys to boot! The list could go on.
