How Did You Get Started?
After watching the Fitness Canada Pageant on television, I decided to volunteer at WNSO's 2002 National show to learn exactly what might be involved. It was there that I had an opportunity to meet competitors, trainers as well as many of the industry's leaders in all aspects of health and fitness. One year later I made my fitness debut!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Hitting The Weights - I prefer to weight train in the afternoon. That's when I am able to put the most into my training. I have learned that a four day training split works best for me as it still leaves me time (and energy) to work on dance, gymnastics and flexibility training.
Cardio Is Key - Doing my cardio first thing in the morning gives me the extra energy kick I need to get through my day and has proven to be most effective in helping me to reduce my body fat. I like to vary cardio training by alternating low and high intensity cardiovascular training four times a week.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
Variety is the spice of life! I try to maintain a healthy diet by eating a diversity of foods.
My protein choices include chicken breast, fish, turkey and eggs. I love to use brown rice, quinoa, kasha, yams and oatmeal as carb sources. With EFA's I try to switch it up as often as I can using Udo's oil, flaxseed oil, and of course nuts (almonds are my favorite).
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I try my best to get as much of my dietary needs from food however, I am the first to admit that life (work, school, family) can often make it difficult. I get the most use out of ISOPro's Vanilla protein powder. I use it for shakes, mix in my oatmeal, pancakes, you name it!
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Fitness gives me the opportunity to continue to grow physically, mentally and spiritually. My focus with every competition is to improve. Whether I'm able to learn a new strength move, lift an extra 10 pounds or simply "feel" better on stage... I have accomplished my goal.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I am very interested in helping other women who are exploring the competitive fitness scene find their niche and ultimately reach their fitness goals.
I look forward to sharing every aspect of competition preparation from their very first workout to stepping on stage competition day and everything in between. I would also love to produce my very own fitness competition. You never know... keep an eye out!
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
One tip I would give other fitness competitors is to compete with yourself and for yourself! At the end of the day, you have to be proud of you!
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
The fitness industry is filled with amazingly talented and inspirational people... just one? Not possible. I think that everyone who has followed through on their decision to compete and actually has stepped foot on stage... deserves Kudos! It's not as easy as it looks!
